The Institute for Ecological Civilization works with allies and global leaders to design solutions for the well-being of people and the planet. By convening experts from across the major sectors of society, we have been able to catalyze groundbreaking explorations of the ways that current systems and structures need to be transformed. Ultimately, our goal is to work with leaders to shape the policies that, when implemented, will bring about a sustainable, ecological civilization.
The Institute for Ecological Civilization (EcoCiv) hosts the California hub of the global Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll). Hubs are place-based groups that promote new narratives, policies, and ideas to make the wellbeing economy a reality in their country or state. The California hub is the first in the United States.

The Wellbeing Economy Governments partnership (WEGo) is a collaboration of national and regional governments promoting sharing of expertise and transferrable policy practices. The aims are to deepen their understanding and advance their shared ambition of building wellbeing economies. WEGo, which currently comprises Scotland, New Zealand, Iceland, Wales and Finland, is founded on the recognition that ‘development’ in the 21st century entails delivering human and ecological wellbeing.
The State of California’s large and diverse economy and its history of progressive innovation in the United States make it an ideal leader in the well-being economy movement. A WEAll California Hub is now in development, led by the California-based Institute for Ecological Civilization.

The mission of the Center for Partnership Studies is to catalyze movement towards partnership systems on all levels of society through research, education, grassroots empowerment, and policy initiatives. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is still the predominant indicator used to measure the quality of our life. WiSE will aspire towards a holistic, beyond GDP, assessment of the preconditions for wellbeing, sustainability and equity. To transform towards a WiSE society, this emerging initiative intends to bring together a broad range of interdisciplinary scientific expertise necessary to understand the interface between wellbeing, sustainability and equity.
