Many of the challenges faced by communities are also being faced by other communities which have developed innovative solutions through the work of creative individuals and collaborative organizations, very often outside and even in opposition to the politically powerful in city hall. This wiki is is intended for those seeking the means of redefining and redesigning their local community outside of the usual system of city council politics by providing a collection of websites, Facebook sites and groups and online documentation dealing with a range of topics related to local community governance, building and development.

The Home or FrontPage for New Community Paradigms lists different general areas of concern as wiki-sections in a bulleted format. Each wiki-section then further breaks down to wiki-pages covering more specific areas of concern, each containing relevant weblinks and files,  as well as direct links to other Related Wiki-pages and a path to Navigate Back to the Frontpage.

You can also navigate through this wiki by using either the Sidebar or the Navigator, both of which can be found on the right side of the main wiki desktop (the one your are reading now).  It is easier using the Sidebar which lists all of the major areas. The Navigator is made up of folders like Administration which contains wiki-pages and uploaded files related to that folder. Of course, in a pinch, the web browser back button always works.

All of the wiki-pages and internal files open up within this wiki but any external links or documents open up in a new tab or window.

As was said on the Frontpage, this wiki works with the Pathways to New Community Paradigms blog to provide a pathway for learning more about online resources that can be used to help build better communities. This wiki is also integrated with the Diigo online bookmarking system which provides even more opportunities for collaborative learning, research and implementation. More on the Diigo system at Using Diigo on this site.  It has recently been integrated with a TheBrain.com New Community Paradigms mindmap.  As it is never enough for a single individual or small group to have only online resources, this wiki also provides links to various advocacy groups that can be sought for additional information, resources or support.  Facebook has  been chosen as the most prevalent social media platform and relevant Facebook connections are listed under the specific wiki-pages and under Facebook Connections. Tags, labels or book markings are also an important means of connecting ideas and the intention is to get all sets of tags working together. Currently there are three sets of tags Tags for this WikiDiigo Tags Page and Blog Labels

For additional assistance and ideas there is the basic help that comes with PBWorks.

You can simply read the contents of this wiki and hopefully find resources useful in creating a new set of paradigms for your community or for addressing a particular issue facing a community with which you are working.

You can participate more directly by helping to find resources or writing related articles or or create learning modules using the resources found here.

If you are interested in doing more, you can request to become a writer by clicking here on at near the top right hand corner.  It would be great to have others contribute to this effort. Keep in mind though that I am looking for direct online resources.  So if you do a blog post about a new resource then put the resource on this wiki your blog post will be attached as an external reference.

As way of background, the idea of combining a blog with a wiki in this way came from the MITWorld video Media in Transition 6: New Media, Civic Media which puts forward the concept of blogs being dynamic but "space-based" making it difficult to create an in depth platform for learning.  A wiki follows the principle of being "time-based"  and therefore static allowing both for deeper exploration of issues and an opportunity for greater collaboration.
